BMW E60 M5

The Ultimate S85 Intake System

An intake system which performs both on the dyno and the real world with a realistic gain of 12hp at high engine speeds where the OEM intake becomes restrictive.

For this application we have opted for a smooth concentric one-piece expanding inlet tube with integrated MAF.  These attach to the lower filter housings.

The expanding large volume inlet tube acts like a large velocity stack which accelerates the airflow and is much larger than the small and short velocity stack fitted to the internals of the oem intake.

The result of the smoother airflow from our inlet tube is a far smoother lower rpm torque availability from the engine vastly improving drivability.

Throttle response is immediately felt to be smoother and more eager.

A complete product which performs consistently due to it’s sealed high flow design keeping intake air temperatures at ambient.
Fits directly to OEM lower and frontal intake.

Air Filtration

Within this beautifully shaped carbon shaped enclosure sits our bespoke short stack high surface area filter larger than any cone filter design currently on offer on the market with a huge opening of 175mm and is designed to take full advantage of the intake tube by altering the direction of the airflow towards the outer walls.

By placing the air filter in front of the inlet tube we achieve the largest velocity stack ever seen for the E60 M5 and which also has the best laminar flow.

It is important to note that we have painstakingly opted for the largest possible air filter for a various number of reasons.  Not only does a larger air filter allow for more air flow and therefore power but it also does not block up for longer and continues to be efficient at it’s main purpose which is to filter the air of harmful elements.

Air Intake Temperatures
&
Heat Soak

The majority of intake systems on the market are open designs which allow high temperature engine bay air to enter the intake system.
This has has a two tier negative effect:

1. The most understood effect is that the hotter engine bay air is less dense in oxygen which naturally produces less power.
2.  The second effect is less well understood.  The ECU detects the higher temperature air through the intake air temperature sensor located inside the MAF sensor.  The compensation tables will reduce ignition timing which has a drastic effect on power output.  In the case of the MSS85 ECU running the S85 V10 engine, not only is ignition timing retarded but fueling is also increased which further reduces power.

The Infinity Design lower air filter / Inlet Air Ducts housings have been meticulously designed to allow for maximum air flow and fit directly to the large factory air inlet ducts creating a perfect seal which keeps the intake air temperatures at their lowest point at all times and thus giving the best possible performance.

Dyno Testing + 12-15 HP

Dyno tests were performed under strict controlled conditions on a Dynojet machine in order to show a true and realistic result.

12-15hp is gained from 6000rpm onwards with smoother torque response in the lower rpms.

This gain is very much apparent under real world driving conditions under both partial and full load with a much smoother power delivery.

This is translated under real world conditions with a harder surge to the red line.
